ok kronks ive set another up best of luck
Well I had a piece of luck today in a way, when I woke up I discovered by boiler was not working, pilot light had gone out.
I managed to relight it but the heating would only stay on for about 5 mins or so before it stopped working again, pilot light would
go out too. I repeated that a few times, restarting it only for it to close down after 10 mins.
Had me really worried it was a serious boiler issue with winter coming up (indeed here), fortunately by brother is a gas engineer
I got him to come over after work (to do some more work for me lol).
Anyhow he gave it a bit of a clean out of all the soot that had built up, and put a new thermostat in (the old one was still working but it is a good idea to put a new one in when you have the chance).
He said it was "blow back" the thing being clogged up with soot or something like that I think some safety cut off thing cuts in and turns the gas and pilot light off.
Seems to be working fine now - touch wood.
It is a great relief that it was so easy to fix, I though I might need a new boiler immediately but it seems fine now.
The boiler is really old though and needs replacing, but I can do that at a convenient time I can plan for, rather than in an emergency.
So a great relief it seems to be sorted now!!

im a bit further down the supply chain than the electric board i get my electric from the landlord who gets it from the main mill and the switchgear in the mains room there is pretty antiquitated so we do get the odd failure, especially in the cold

That sounds a bit dodgy, can't be very nice losing power when it is cold, or anytime really.
Do you have any form of back up? You can get diesel generators, I think?
Or what about calor gas?
Anyhow fingers crossed you get no further power outages.

dodgy is the landlords middle name lol we had some new mains cables fitted a couple of yrs ago and not had any issues since its only usually off for a few hours as its usually a fuse in the main mill ive got bottled gas for the cooker so can get heating that way, the fire wont work as the ignition needs electric to light i can connect a battery to the caravan to get light, but for a few hours that it used to happen i just used to put up with it and use candles

Yes for a few hours is no big deal really.
I remember when my electricity went one evening, I was left in the complete dark, could not see my hand in front of my face!
Fortunately I has a cigarette lighter with me which gave me enough light to find some torches and a candles, the power was back on in
an hour or so.

Yes I think the first thing I found when I got a bit of light from my lighter was my phone.

Just defrosted my fridge freezer compartment, it has auto defrost but it is crap the ice builds up.
I used a hair dryer on high heat and mopped up the melt water, after a while I could get big slab of ice off.
I am pretty pleased I can get twice as much in what was an ever shrinking ice cave!

Yea I missed that check unfortunately, still it might not be the end of the world we will see how it pans out, it is a good game, every move seems to leads to another complicated position and there are a number of possible moves, for me and for you so it is hard to think far a head.
So we shall see how it goes!!
