I got a 128GB SD (SDHC) card on ebay for just £6, you can also get 256GB ones for the same price, that would work out at £24 for terabyte.
It works fine in my tablet so I do not see why anyone owuld need to pay more, you do see basically the same thing for a lot more money.
So it seems to be they would be a pretty cheap way of doing backups rather than say an external USB drive, especially as my last 3TB USB drive failed!! I mean my worry was the sdhc card might fail but they seem a lot more reliable and robust than a usb drive, they are also smaller and easier to store. Indeed they are so small that small size is almost a problem.

They are memory cards, you can use in mobile phones and laptops to expand the available storage They are very small when compared to say a hard drive. I am just making the point that you can get them cheap on ebay and they seem to work OK the same card is on sale at Argos for £50 www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4131164.htmI got the same thing for just £6 nearly a 1/10th of the price! It seem to work just fine so I don't know why anyone would pay £50 for the same thing! All this technological stuff can be very confusing though, most people just want something that works.

Buying a newphone can be a complicated business so many thing to consider, like I just found out the SIM card in my old phone is too big for my mew phone!! Mind you it is unlocked and sim free so I choose what I think is the best deal. I have a new sim on order, but I can also just cut the old sim to a smaller size apaprently, but I don't want to risk that yet.

THE CARD FAILED!!!
Just an update on this, the card seemed to failed, I have been having a few problems with the tablet and then later I got an error saying the SD card needed formatting. I have reformatted and the device works OK now but I guess maybe the cards are so cheap as they are faulty? There is nothing valuable stored on it but I will have to see how it goes and whether the problem re-occurs, I had had a few weird problem with the device, though it might be a virus, which could also be the problem, I shall see how it goes.

Well it did not go very well the card will not even format now.
I also have another 32GB card which appears to be OK but come up as invalid in a SD card test program. That card is in the phone.
The cards do not have their stated capacity but will work OK for a while untill you start trying to write to memory which does not actually exist.
Lesson learned.

One is a right off and the other has only about 4GB on it but it's unusable really. I ended up getting two 32GB cards from wilco www.wilko.com/memory-cards+blank-discs/intergral-ultimapro-high-speed-memory-micro-sd-hc-32gb-40mbs/invt/0348832They tested as genuine and work just fine. I had already given good feedback on ebay too I have made that mistake before it best to wait a month or so before you give feedback.

you should be able to get your money back from the ebay shop regardless off feed back
feedback is really just for the reliability of the sale/seller rather than the goods, unless fake/scam stuff
the shop isn't to know the goods would turn faulty and will replace them just as a street shop would
you can report them to ebay/paypal if used if they refuse
(maybe they are old stock or have been kept in damp or near magnets when shipping)
but unless that was made clear at sale you can claim
on another note
sd cards are not good for long term storage as they do deteriorate,
its also the way they store the info they are temporary data storage and transport tools really
a photography friend of mine explained it to me some years back
but as gibby says its just unless you fully understand the principal and terminology
something to do with the way the data is compressed, like material, some hold creases more when scrunched up and released
sounds more plausible I guess when a pro tells it
you should still be able to recover the info of your faulty hard drive
or a decent repair shop will have to tools to do it
in my camera I have the extream pro sd card
a lot more expensive only 4gb but that gives me about 800 pics at the max 20mill pixels
unless your shooting on sports mode at say 20 fps (I usually keep it to 4) it will last all day for general pics till you can upload to lappy
but the weight of it compaired to a standard one is a tell tale
plus they store the info faster so the camera is ready to fire again sooner
some things as you have found are better to buy from a reputable shop
internet can be cheeper but buyer beware is advised, plus the posting and waiting when returning faulty goods is a pita
its not the best at the local shop but at least you can ring there neck if you don't get satisfied

Well they were dirt cheap so I think I will just learn my lesson.
Hard drives can fail too.
I like to keep several backups, they can't all fail at once ( I hope.
There is nothing of great value on the hard drive, some old football matches I recorded but I'd probably never watch them, anyway, if I have the time I might try to recover it, I got some help about how to do that from a good technical guy from alt.computers, and some tools to do it, but I never got round to doing it all.

when I orange juice logged (not water) my last lappy
it took me 12 months to take the hd out and buy a thing to put it in so I could get the pics and music off
just because I was nervous about doing it lol
there all in this lappy now
I guess I should transfer everything back onto that as a back up incase I do the same spillage thing with this one
it almost happened the other day, a bit got in and the mouse usb port dongle thing went crazy for a while
I guess its better than paper old ways there more chance of salvage
my old paper photos are mainly ruined with damp
im scanning the salvageable ones to the lappy

kronks you should complain to trade descriptions Well I would but it is not worth the effort for about £9. I would have in the past perhaps but I figure it is not worth the grief involved. Plus it was two different sellers! I guess I learned a lesson for £9, if I have what would have been full price I would have complained. One of them still works a bit sometimes lol.
